Jade & Chris - Wedding at Gardener's Arms Coniston

Image
Lots of fun at this wedding, which makes my job even better!  We also had the drama of the "rings left at home" scenario but we didn't dwell on that as they had to borrow a couple!  Jade and Chris asked me to be their wedding photographer as I had done photos of their newborn baby boy a few years earlier so was nice to see him grown up a bit!  I was able to capture the groom's (and son's) preparations at the best man's houses well as going to the bride's home for the girls getting ready, then we made the journey to The Gardener's Arms in Coniston for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and partying afterwards! Flash isn't just for darkness! High-Speed-Sync HSS flash examples shooting portraits in bright sun

Image
I did an outdoor portrait shoot in the bright sunshine at the weekend, so used a number of natural-light photography techniques, such as diffusers (to calm the harsh sun falling on the subject) or reflector to bounce light into the shadows.   This post is about the use of flash though. But... it's sunny, so why do we need flash? Well, it's about shaping the light and balancing the ambient/background light with that falling on the subject. In the image 1, this is what it looks like with the camera set to make it bright enough to see the subject (F6.3 1/250s) which is all fine, but the background looks a bit washed out and the sky is boring and white. image exposed for the subject, making the sky washed out Looking at image 2 , this is exposed to get that brilliant blue sky by increasing the shutter speed by 3 stops (keeping at F6.3, but the shutter is now 1/2000s) putting the subject in darkness. I wanted to use flash to fill in those shadows...

What a beautiful and emotional wedding this was!  Steve and Laura chose a lustre photographic paper on the inside of their wedding album, , wrapped in a black faux leather "florentine" cover with a subtle leathergrain.  With plenty of smiles and tears that you might expect from a usual wedding, this was the first trampoline I've ever had!

Sarah and Dominic's Wedding Album

This was an impressive wedding album, from Graphistudio's Original Wedding Book range, with the rigid pages and metal printed front cover.  A really weighty piece! They had all the options with this one, even down to the Design box.
