Boudoir modelling shoot with Cazza

Image
I had a wonderful shoot with model Cazza Hoops.  It is good to just try things out - new photography techniques or lighting styles.  A paying client doesn't  want to be hanging around while you experiment, so these personal shoots are a great opportunity to stretch ourselves. We started with some simple low-key silhouette backlighting, using some gridded striplight set to the sides and just behind her, with a large white reflector in front to bounce a bit of light back into the shadows.  Just moving it further or closer changed the effect it had. For the next ones, I used just one light with a snoot attached, positioned right behind Cazza, which gave one small point of light, and as she changed positions it gave a halo effect.  With a model like her, she could be left to do her own thing with the poses.  I just had to catch it as the light hit right spot! backlit shot of model Cazza Hoops at Darryl Brooks Photography studio Hull The last set used a sc...

Emma's 21st Birthday Party

Image
Another fabulous party last weekend for Emma's 21st birthday.  I have been photographer at these events for this family three time now, and it is lovely to be part of it.  It had a carnival theme, with big top tent, colourful flags and Brazilian-style dancing by Innovation Events. We had a few family portraits, just before the other guests arrived, then it was time for lots of candid informal party shots! Bar and food services were provided by Bishops Bar of Howden .  For enquiries about me capturing your event photography, get in touch through my contact page

Nuala photoshoots

Image
Nuala came into my studio after we had been discussing the type of photos she liked.  She had been wanting to do a photoshoot for some time but life had been getting in the way.  She has her own business, and as anyone in that situation know, there are usually not enough hours in the day, especially when you have a family as well!  With that in mind, we made a plan in advance, and I was already set up for a few different looks before she had even set foot inside the studio , worked quickly and were done in a timely fashion. It was so successful that we arranged another shoot soon after! She a strong sense of style and fashion, so we leaned heavily into that fashion magazine kind of look. A quick change of outfit and we headed outside to the back of studio for a more industrial look.   For her other shoot, she brought another selection of outfits.  We first opted for a long white silky (under) dress.  Her long elegant frame gave us some lovely shapes. Wet and wild photoshoot with Sofia

Image
We had discussed a few different ideas about doing another photoshoot, with some being a bit more complex and on location, but due to logistics and scheduling, we had to put some of those on the backburner.  One of the ideas that Sofia had was "my hair wet and a bit wild" and we decided very quickly that we could do that, had some free time, so did it.  Sofia is a fitness instructor based in Hull East Yorkshire so we also did some more fitness-based shots for her business.  A quick application of baby oil and a few sprays of water got the glistening look that we wanted.  With a high key light from an umbrella and a silver reflector below, rim lighting was done with two gridded stripboxes to prevent her being lost in the black background.

Portfolio photoshoot with Paige

Image
It is nice when I get recommended by people, and also nice to see people coming back for more photos.  I had previously photographed Paige when she was studying Performing Arts at St Mary's College.  A few years have passed (only a couple!) and she's been off to do various things, and I caught her while she was back in Hull for a bit.  We had discussed a few ideas, she brought a selection of clothes with her, and we shot about 500 frames in less than an hour!  She's an absolute pleasure to work with and we got lots of beautiful photos.

More actor headshots!

Image
The thing about being young is, you get older!  When you are a child actor/model, this happens even more quickly than in adults, so to keep the portfolio up to date you need fresh headshots to give to talent agencies.  Our city of Kingston Upon Hull may not be a vibrant metropolis like London, Manchester or Leeds, but there are definitely some working actors and models living here and keeping busy, and coming in to be photographed by me! Here are some of my repeat clients who have been back to my studio recently.

Property photography for AirBnb rental near York

Image
Here is a lovely 2-bedroom barn conversion for rental on Airbnb in a rural village just outside of York.  I had photographed one of their properties and they called me back to do some more, as they have three properties in total here.  If you need somewhere near York but without the noise of being in York, you should check it out here

Actor headshots for drama student Will

Image
Will (and his mum) came to the studio for his first ever set of actor headshots.  I asked if he had done any before and he just shrugged and said "school photos?"! I asked them to bring a selection of outfits, and we worked through a few different looks with a variety of backdrops in a short amount of time. If you are an actor, singer or any kind of performer and need new headshots, please get in touch through the website .  Discounts for students are available.
